There are always exciting new things that seek our attention in the world. New movies premiere with great fanfare, some including special midnight showings or sneak previews. Books are released with signings and tours. New music albums are released to fans that have waited with long anticipation. Even video games have entered into the premiere scene, having release parties for the newest version of fan favorites.
Next year, the world will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall. That event in 1989 represented far more than a story of local political interest, but was representative of the collapse of a line which had divided a nation and signaled the coming end of barriers which had separated millions from freedom in other parts of the world. It was a momentous event in modern history with impact still being felt today.
There is an expression which has come into common parlance as a means of self-motivation. The expression is: “Tomorrow is the First Day of the Rest of Your Life.” The purpose of this expression is to focus upon prioritizing one’s life a day at a time. This expression can be helpful to those who have difficulty prioritizing or are overcoming hardship such as addiction or depression. Choosing to change one’s future begins with now.
Throughout the ages many legends and myths have been formed to explain subjects ranging from the histories of peoples to an attempt to explain natural phenomena within the created world. Many of these legends and myths were not even authored with the intention of being regarded seriously, but in time some came to be believed to such a degree that pagan worship of false deities arose.
The Thanksgiving holiday has come once again with the appropriate trimmings. It is once again a time when the world will somewhat focus upon a general idea of God. This can be a good thing – at least as a start. God is truly worthy of our thanksgiving and remembrance and the Bible has several passages which emphasize the idea of thanksgiving.
