Understanding Sin

A Paradox

In life perhaps there is nothing man understands paradoxically both better and less than sin. Man is familiar with what sin offers in the form of temporal pleasure, seemingly positive temporal benefits, etc. in a legion of ways, going so far as to actually create new and evermore depraved ways to engage in sin. Man knows sin intimately by encouraging its practice and showing wholehearted approval to its furtherance (Rom. 1:32).

Spiritual Zombies

Fictional Monsters

In the world of fiction, and especially in Hollywood, there have been many fanciful creatures and monsters of imagination. Among them, one of the most unusual is the zombie. Originally taken from the occult pagan practices of voodoo, the Hollywood idea is of a monster formed either by the (classic) raising in “re-animation” of the dead, or the (modern) “infection” of the living by some exotic disease.

Better Off Dead

An Incredible Statement

What could possibly cause someone at some point in their life to truly believe that they would be better off dead? The inclination for self-preservation is so natural to all creatures created by God that such a desire must be caused by truly horrific circumstances. Someone who finds themselves in such a mindset would do well to remember the words of Paul:

For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. Phil. 1:21 (NASU)

The Devil Made Me Do It

The Need to Place Blame

We live in a culture that enjoys placing blame. If there is unpleasant news or a tragedy, we feel the need to place the blame somewhere. People blame leaders, and even (incorrectly) God Himself. In the political sphere, when something goes wrong, there is always someone who must “take a fall” – even if that person had no control over the situation. There is a strong desire to place blame somewhere, even when no blame is due.

Watch Where You Step!

A Continual Evil

War is a horrible, terrifying thing which, unfortunately, is an ever present evil in the affairs of man. Throughout history, man has developed new weapons and new techniques for delivering those weapons in conflicts over land, money, power, women, and sometimes completely ridiculous causes.
