Dealing With Stress

A Stressful Life

There are many causes of stress in life. Our lifestyles, jobs, family issues, health concerns, and other various factors contribute to a life filled with stress. As if the stress itself were not enough, the effects of stress on one’s health in all forms (including physical, emotional and spiritual) must be considered in the great danger excessive stress places upon one’s life. The ideal answer to such a problem would be a life without stress, a life without concern or conflict. Such a world is a utopia, however, and to desire for such a world is unrealistic in our fallen world.

The Bravery of Job

A Necessary Choice

When facing great times of crisis or trouble in life, the choice of many is to take the road of the coward. This road can manifest in different ways, such as: self-deprecation and self-blame, blaming others, or avoidance and escape. Each of these ways has one thing in common, a refusal to confront the problem directly. While this may not be possible in every instance, the question of “fight or flight” will separate the brave from the coward in any crisis.

My Yoke Is Easy, My Burden is Light - Mat. 11:30

A Powerful Phrase

This phrase taken from the end of the 11^th^ Chapter of Matthew is a great promise to all who are “weary and heavy-laden” (Mat. 11:28, NASU). This phrase, however, has been greatly misunderstood and taken out of context by many Bible readers. Some have taken this phrase to imply that the Christian life will be “light” and free from labor – this is not the intention of Jesus’ words.

When Everything Goes Wrong

Frustrating Times

There are some times in our lives when it seems that everything goes wrong at the same time. This can be quite frustrating, as one crisis can be dealt with, but multiple crises can make us feel overwhelmed. For example, when you need extra money to pay an unexpected bill, the car will not start. Or when your child needs something special for school, the roof starts to leak. In the world, this has come to be known as Murphy’s Law.

The Son Still Shines

The Wet Season

With the continual rain that came with spring this year, some might have started to wonder if summer was ever going to come at all. Now that the sun has arrived and the promise of warm (and hot) weather is over the horizon, such fears are assuaged. The irony of this is that, of all the things in this life we cannot control, the weather is near the top of the list. It is also something we become bothered about the easiest.
