In a general sense, our nation has had a history of people who are “God-fearing”. While this does not translate into New Testament Christians (as most follow the false teaching of man’s origins), it has created a relatively moral society. The reality that Americans are more “religious” than for example Europe is easily demonstrated.

Defining the meaning and purpose of faith can be challenging. The Bible of course defines faith as “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen” (Heb. 11:1, NASU). However, in a practical sense, explaining this in quantifiable terms can be difficult.
The dystopian novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, written by George Orwell, is a troubling piece of fiction, focused upon the horrors and evils of an overpowering totalitarian state. The novel is troubling as many concepts explored by its author mirror to some degree the actions of some very real totalitarian regimes in recent history.
