The Word of God Will Endure

Where is the Word?

There are times when, looking out into modern society and the world at large, one wonders how so many people choose to reject the Word of God. In the span of a few generations, moral standings based upon Biblical principles have changed for the worst. One might even wonder where the Word has gone in the world at all.

Remember God’s Promise

It is at these points to remember the promise of God concerning His Word:

For, “All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flower of grass. The grass withers, and the flower falls off, but the Word of the Lord endures forever.” And this is the word which was preached to you.
1 Pet. 1:24, 25 (NASU)

This promise can proven with examples like:

In the ancient world, many pagan false gods and false religions bloomed into existence. Despite rampant idolatry, the Word of God continued on.

In Judah, the people had walked away from God for so long that the Law itself was completely forgotten and had to be rediscovered. The Word of God continued on.

In A.D. 302-305 the Roman emperor Diocletian attempted to specifically destroy every written copy of the Word of God. He failed and was later deposed, but the Word of God continued on.

Human philosophy

The French philosopher Voltaire claimed in his day that within a generation the Word of God would be considered a worthless folly. Within that generation his estate became home to a Bible society and the Word of God continued on.

The Word Continues On

Numerous other examples exist proving that, no matter how strongly man seeks to attack the Word, nor how long man chooses to ignore the Word, it cannot and will not be destroyed. Jesus made this promise even more specific when He said:

Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.
Mark 13:31 (NASU)

When we look at the world around us and see fewer and fewer people honor God and His Word it can be greatly troubling. Take heart in remembering that whatever man chooses, the truth will remain. Whatever the world becomes, the Word will endure forever.
