What Can We Really Know?

Man’s Pursuit

The pursuit of knowledge has been an endeavor of mankind with varied levels of intensity throughout all of history. The idea of “progress” through discovery has led to many inventions that have benefited mankind with comforts, increased life expectancy and health, and an expansion of our understanding of the world and universe. However, it is important to consider that all that man discovers is already known to the Creator of all, God.

Grasping Eternity

Impossible to Comprehend

In truth, it is impossible for man to fully comprehend the ramifications of eternity. We can attempt to use metaphors and illustrations to describe such a concept, but for man, who is trapped in the happenings of time, the concept of limitlessness is beyond our own experience. It is into this realm that God not only promises, but has purposed for His created beings to enter. While we are not eternal beings in the ultimate sense having had a beginning (unlike God who has no beginning), a part of us is created to last beyond the coil of this earthly frame.

A Leap of Faith

A Foolish Term

Over the last few hundred years, a term has become common within “religious studies” describing faith: The Leap of Faith. This idea describes faith in God as being a passive act, without proof or knowledge, required by man in order to receive the blessings of God. This leap is simply that – a jump into the spiritually “unknown”, trusting that God will take care of the rest. While the concept of grace involves receiving an unearned gift, and a trust in God through obedience to grant that gift, the idea of a leap of faith is Biblically incorrect.

The Uncompromising Jesus Christ

Packaging

In the world of marketing, many factors are considered when presenting a particular product or message to the public. At the forefront of these factors lies the interest in understanding the audience, and tailoring the presentation to be the most effective with that audience. This process (sometimes called “packaging”) can be very successful in presenting a product in an attractive and exciting way.

My Hope is Built

The Foundation of Christianity

A key element in how Christianity has survived the test of time and how those who follow Christ can withstand the challenges of the world is the foundation upon which Christianity is built. Instead of a mere philosophy, codified book of rules, lotus of common interests, transitory fad of popular culture, etc. that binds other social groupings together, Christianity is based upon the very real sacrifice of the very real Son of God.
