Where Has the Love for God Gone?

The Enlightenment

Introduction

In a general sense, our nation has had a history of people who are “God-fearing”. While this does not translate into New Testament Christians (as most follow the false teaching of man’s origins), it has created a relatively moral society. The reality that Americans are more “religious” than for example Europe is easily demonstrated.

However, of the past few decades, the appreciation for at least the idea and authority of God and the acceptance of the importance of His Word has waned. Over a series of three articles, we will examine this question of where this love for God has “gone”. This week, we turn back the clock a couple hundred years.

Emotion vs. Spirituality

Understanding Faith

Defining the meaning and purpose of faith can be challenging. The Bible of course defines faith as “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen” (Heb. 11:1, NASU). However, in a practical sense, explaining this in quantifiable terms can be difficult.

Communication: The Nerves of the Body of Christ

Nervous System

In the physical body, the nervous system serves an important purpose in transmitting signals from the brain in order to control muscles and other parts of the body. The nervous system also serves the purpose of warning the brain of possible problems throughout the body through the signal of pain.

The Wisdom of Expedience

True Spiritual Maturity

All things are lawful; but not all things are expedient. All things are lawful; but not all things edify.
1 Corinthians 10:23 (ASV)

With this one short verse, Paul describes one of the great responsibilities found within true spiritual maturity.

Love and Valentine's Day

A Long History

Valentine’s Day has an interesting history, which predates many other holidays. Its first establishment can be traced to a proclamation by Pope Gelasius I in A.D. 496. Its purpose has always been focused upon a time of affection and gift giving between those in relationships. It is called a day of love, although this focus is primarily upon romance.
