Not Where They Expected

Early Church

With the coming of the church with great power on the Day of Pentecost as recorded in Acts 2, it was inevitable that at some point the apostles and early church would come into conflict with the religious leaders in Jerusalem. These religious leaders had believed they had defeated the followers of Jesus with His crucifixion, but instead an entire new body was being formed in their very city. And this new body was growing, three thousand men on the first day, and more day by day.

Better Off Dead

An Incredible Statement

What could possibly cause someone at some point in their life to truly believe that they would be better off dead? The inclination for self-preservation is so natural to all creatures created by God that such a desire must be caused by truly horrific circumstances. Someone who finds themselves in such a mindset would do well to remember the words of Paul:

For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. Phil. 1:21 (NASU)

My Hope is Built

The Foundation of Christianity

A key element in how Christianity has survived the test of time and how those who follow Christ can withstand the challenges of the world is the foundation upon which Christianity is built. Instead of a mere philosophy, codified book of rules, lotus of common interests, transitory fad of popular culture, etc. that binds other social groupings together, Christianity is based upon the very real sacrifice of the very real Son of God.

Concern Over Security

An Insecure World

The world in which we live is an insecure place. This reality has caused much concern and angst in the neighborhoods where we live. The need to feel secure has caused many men and women to seek out any source to provide them with the promise, or at least the illusion of security.

The Most Dangerous Crisis

Constant Crisis

In life we are treated to a great number of crises, be they real or imagined. There are crisis events worthy of our attention: natural disasters, wars and the promise of wars, disease outbreaks, etc. When there is no crisis in the world to report for the day, many actively search out something to report, sometimes “creating” crisis. This is why it has always been a mantra in news media that “if it bleeds, it leads.” It is curious with all the crises we face in life, the most dangerous and damaging crisis of all is never mentioned, or is even considered as a problem. The oldest crisis of man: the crisis of sin.
